Woodland Retreat within Seattle Constructed Around Tiny rocks Courtyard

Robert Hutchison Architecture finished the Courtyard House in the River style, a modern forest escape located simply outside Seattle, WA within the shadow associated with Mt. Rainier. The one, 900 square-foot (176 square-meter) home can be clad in Western red cedar and painted black to blend with the encompassing forest on the banks of the White River.

“ By working busily with our client, the building footprint was kept as compact as you possibly can to minimize site disturbance, ” the architects said. “ The residence values design over size. ”

The client’; s brief requested a zen-like retreat, from the city noise. Expansive forest views through glass frames bring a feeling of peacefulness inside. Wooden floors and furniture enhance the home’; s natural feel.

“ The inside focuses on the home’; s double-height space, a comforting exposed structure for warmth and link with nature, and the dark steel useful for the fireplace anchors the area with a central center point, ” Hutchison said.

More over, the steel fireplace separates the living room from the covered deck. The entire house is set around a gravel courtyard, which protects the inhabitants from roaming elk. Photography courtesy of Robert Hutchison Architecture.
