This project concerns the reconstruction of a suburban home, remodeling both the interior layout and exterior appearance of the house, including designing the entire interior.
It was designed by the architectural firm Kaa Studio, led by Kamila Holubcová and Antonín Holubec.
It is located in Lány, Kladno District, in the Czech Republic, in the outskirts of a village located in a region 35 kilometers away from Prague, in the Central Bohemian Region of the country. The project began in 2013 and was completed in 2015.
The original home was preserved almost in its entirety, as it was already considered to be quite exceptional. The architects’ task was to design an overall reconstruction of the suburban home in a retro style for weekend living.
The architects intended for the home to reflect the colors of the surrounding forest, and so its façade was painted in dark colors, more specifically in shades of gray-brown.
Its interior, on the other hand, is done in light colors, with a ceiling of light-colored wood with skylights through which natural light seeps in during the day. White walls predominate all spaces, creating rooms that are full of light.
The home is simple, with a saddle-roof, a raised ground floor, and a semi-basement.
