Mid Century Home by Roger Lee

This mid century home by Roger Lee was designed in 1954 and completed in 1955, this is the first time 440 Camino Sobrante aka the Wilkinson house has ever been on the market. The house has loads of character and you can tell that it was loved and very much lived in. When I first saw the pictures, my concerns about the aged wood form the exteriors to the interiors was soon lost as I ran through the images of the whole home. I don’t know if these images are staged or if this is how the owners lived but either way the interiors are a great gauge of what MCM looked like.

Roger Lee was a native Californian of Chinese decent born in Oakland in 1920 who died in Hawaii at the age of 61, where he also served during World War II as an assistant engineer with the US Engineers office in Honolulu. A graduate of Cal Berkeley, Lee opened his firm in 1949 and quickly became one of the leading modern architects of his time along with other iconic figures such as Neutra and Wurster. Lee designed just over 100 custom homes, mostly in Northern California and was known as an architect who “designed high style for the middle class”.
