Kanzlerbungalow, the former residential and reception building of German Federal Chancellor in Bonn is an outstanding example of mid century in Germany. This amazing mid century masterpiece was designed by Architect Sep Ruf. It resonates “glass house” because of the steel structure surrounded by glass. The interiors are amazing as well. It was obvious that the Eames designs were popular with with the Chancellor.
“The later Chancellor Ludwig Erhard was – still in his capacity as Minister of Economics – the residence as a symbol of cosmopolitan and modern attitude of the Federal Republic of Germany in order. His predecessor, Konrad Adenauer was a day of his private home in Rhöndorf come to Bonn. So was the architect Sep Ruf , who was friends with Erhard and already built his private house, commissioned a representative and modern building in the tradition of classical modernism in the park of the former Chancellor’;s Office , the Palais Schaumburg to build. The building ( approximately 1963-1966) is an outstanding example of West German post-war architecture. The cost was around 2 million DM . Wikipedia”
