In the quiet Ontario town of Westdale, a Canadian couple set out to revive a worn, water-damaged 1939 Ar2rk Moderne property and the results are gorgeous. Just profiled on Dwell, the undertaking involved not only nearby companies DPAI Architecture and Toms + McNally Style, but also “open homes” exactly where neighbors could give input. Soon after all, with a distinctively Ar2rk Moderne curvy facade, this is not your typical suburban residence.

On the exterior, the previous moldy stucco was redone over an “Exterior Insulation and Finishing Technique) from Dryvit. Within, walls were removed to develop a much more open residing area, while authentic particulars like the plasterwork on the ceiling and marble fireplace had been preserved. In the kitchen, the owners brought in their robin egg blue vintage appliances from Elmira Stove Performs, defying seemingly ubiquitous stainless steel and all-white schemes. Probably the most dramatic alter, though, is the glassy 2nd-story addition, which mirrors the curves of the original building and produces airy rooms upstairs. Complete story and gallery this way.
